Helen, would you please share with us some pro tips for feeling effortlessly sophisticated and stylish every day?

Of course. Most of us don’t have much time to spend getting ready every day. Hectic lifestyles and city living can also interfere with our clothes choices, but with a few simple guidelines you can feel effortlessly comfortable and chic, no matter what your plans are for the day, or how short on time you are.

For instance, how to pick dresses for every day?

Dresses are easily the most effortless pieces in any wardrobe. Not only do they require fewer decisions to be made as they can be simply combined with shoes to create a full outfit, but they are probably also the most versatile. Wear them with flat sandals in summer for walking the city, strappy heels for a terrace party, or ankle boots for the office and they will never look out of place, no matter the occasion or comfort level required. Slip dresses are having a revival right now, and while they will always look timeless, they will still be a highly sought-after style item well into 2021. Teamed with a t-shirt or demin jacket for daytime, or a sparkly drop earing for night, a slip or satin midi, is a piece that guarantees a lot of wear. Often thought of as overly feminine, most long dresses and maxi skirts can in fact be used to easily create long slimming lines, and are adaptable enough to be teamed with turtle neck jumpers, flat boots, or an oversized blazer or leather jacket for a warmer or more androgynous take.

Tell us, please, about the craft of layering.

Virtually any outfit can look chic with a long wool coat or trench thrown on top. As the colder months creep in, a wrap coat in any neutral colour, will look elegant with even the most casual jeans and white t-shirt combo. Combine this with several fine gold necklaces, a few stacked rings, and a trilby hat to complete the layering look.

What about accessories?

Accessories as wearable art. Silk scarves are one on the most versatile and beautiful accessories anyone can wear. Whether vintage or from the high street, a scarf brings a colourful accent that can be worn in so many ways. Creating the impression that you put thought into your outfit, a  scarf in the hair, tied as a neck scarf, as a belt, a bandana, or wrapped around the straps of your handbag is a look that will never date.

What else would you recommend us?

Create a capsule. Invest in 10 /15 pieces that will always make you feel polished and well dressed. These items can be mixed and matched to create evening looks, while always making you feel comfortable. Choosing neutral colours in white, beige, dark blue, black and tan, will mean that all the items will always mix well together, and serve as the perfect base for layering colourful jewellery, a bright scarf, or a printed heel, should you want. Curated in tones to suit your skin tone, a capsule wardrobe should include the following pieces:

• A white shirt or white silk top
• A lightweight beige or cream belted trench
• A white, tan, brown or black leather handbag
• A long camel coat
• A well-fitting black dress
• A structured blazer
• A figure flattering maxi summer dress
• A classic watch with leather strap or in gold or silver.
• Gold stud, hoop, or pearl earrings.
• White leather sneakers.
• A leather jacket in black or tan.
• Flattering straight or slim cut jeans in a dark or bright blue.
• A silk print scarf.
• Black or tan leather ankle boots.
• Some oversized glamourous sunglasses.

What happens with pattern?

Just play with it! Once you have these basics, and are comfortable with mixing them, try swapping out any conventional capsule item with a more edgy piece, or add in a pattern. By doing so, you are still guaranteed to look stylish, but you can bring more colour or personality to your look. The easiest way to do this is to use the swap system! For example, instead of the white silk top opt for a soft pink tone. Likewise, rather than choosing your every occasion beige trench, try a denim or classic animal print version for the perfect spring summer wardrobe uplift.  Lastly, rather than reaching for your go to black leather handbag, enhance an otherwise neutral outfit with a deep burgundy leather bag, or try a bright blue clutch or pink snakeskin for a statement look.

By following these simple tips in your daily wardrobe planning, you can very soon start to feel the most stylish version of yourself!

How to look your best everyday with makeup?

It’s easier than you may think. By starting using natural and easy applicable makeup products that match your skin tone. Follow these steps:

1. Clean your facial skin with a matching product to your skin type (using just water is also fine but bear in mind that due to air pollution it’s good to do more profound skin cleansing).
2. Apply facial oil or serum and hydrating cream of your choice. After that apply some makeup primer.
3. Daily you can use a CC or BB cream, tinted moisturizer or a very liquid, light foundation which can be applied with your fingers, brush or sponge. You can apply it in 2 minutes, but don’t forget to blend any base on your jaw line, neck and ears.
4. Fill your eyebrows with brow mascara and use a pen to fill any missing brow spots. Follow your natural brow shape.
5. Now, set the already applied base on your lead with some loose powder and then apply your cream eyeshadow on your lead up to your socket line and under the eye. In the outer eye corner make a little ‘>’ to connect color. Blend with a blending brush and set the color again with a loose transparent powder. Apply 2-3 coats of mascara.
6. Set your t-zone with a loose transparent powder, apply bronzer and blush with two clean brushes.
7. Some multipurpose makeup cream products can be used as blush and lipstick (two in one product).

Follow these steps to achieve your best daily appearance. They are easy to do and maintain, once you are in the habit of it. To set up your makeup bag with all the products described above, you’ll need only a small budget, which is great and sustainable. Let everyday be your best makeup day!

What to do with a frizzy hair affected by moisture in Barcelona?

Vladimir Blagojevic, a hairstylist with a 25-year experience, from “V” Style Studio Barcelona, has shared the best hack for making your hair look amazing.

Vladimir, why hair frizz happens?

It may happen as a result of several reasons:

1. Due to air humidity.
2. Because people do not use ‘no frizz’ hair products.
3. Due to weather issues, such as windy or warm days, strong sun, salty water.
4. Also due the fact that Barcelona’s water is quite soft.

What can save any type of hair?

Firstly, using a combination of these 3 products shampoo, mask and conditioner.

Secondly, styling your hair with ‘no frizz’ hair products. Hair spray is most recommended. Why? Despite the “3-product combination treatment”, hair cuticle is still a bit open, so when you apply spray on your hair, you apply it evenly and finally close the hair cuticle completely.

And finally, it is recommended that after every 2 times washing your hair with shampoo and conditioner, you also use nourishing hair mask. Keep it on 15 minutes and rinse. This is how you can nurture your hair with algae, vitamins and minerals. In addition, use hair oil.

My love for makeup started in my childhood, but it took me lots of years to realize what my life dream project is. Just until my heart said: ’I’m a makeup artist!’.

A great perk of this job is meeting people, listening to their stories and I just love using my makeup creative skills to help them look stunning. And that means: empowered!

I’m aware that the client sitting in my makeup chair is probably wondering: ‘How will I look like, after my makeup is done?’

I understand that and I like that she is wondering, because that means she knows how important the personal image is to achieve her goals and wellbeing. I always put myself into my client’s shoes and firstly I want to listen about her wishes and needs, so only later I can give her my advice.

For me it’s important, that before I start doing her makeup, I explain to each client, the following:

–          my makeup brushes, working pallet and spatula are clean and disinfected,

–          when applying makeup on lashes, brows and lips, I’m using disposable wands,

–          no double dipping into the products,

–          I’m wearing protective mask and glasses, because safety is first,

–          every time when I take a product from my kit and go back to the client’s face, I disinfect my hands,

–          my kit is clean and sanitized.

But mostly I’m making sure that each client is feeling comfortable with me while I’m doing her makeup, since I’m entering their personal space and that is the most important. Discretion is my number one priority.

I love makeup and doing makeup, and most of all I love making you happy and empowered through makeup. Because, I love helping women (also men, of course) become the prettiest and most confident version of themselves.

Now, when you’re looking for your ideal makeup artist, ask yourself for which occasion you need to hire them.

Is it for a special event at your work, for a job interview, for a date night? Is it because you’ve been invited to a wedding? Or maybe you’d just like to have a private makeup lesson?

For instance, for a special event at your work, you can choose modern glamour with a classic finish makeup look; for a job interview, you can choose a natural look; if you’re a wedding guest, you can choose a beauty look with more colorful eyes (depending on the wedding style) etc.

What’s the least you should expect from your makeup artist in order to be safe?

A clean and safe makeup kit is not an invention due to Covid-19. It should have always been the number one rule for any makeup artist. It is our responsibility to keep you safe and virus/bacteria-free.

What was my safety protocol for my clients before COVID-19? I have always been strict about that and I will continue to be so from now on:

• Working when being 100% healthy.
• Washing my hands before and after doing a makeup and keeping them clean while doing the makeup.
• Cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing the makeup, brushes and my working environment after using them.
• Using disposables such as mascara wands, lip wands, wedges, cotton rounds and similar.
• Keeping my kit and my brushes clean all the time.

Now, I have added additional measures to my safety protocol:

• Informing my clients about my current health condition.
• Using a first-quality protective equipment (mask, gloves, working clothes…).
• Going to each client with a sanitary kit (not just with the makeup kit but also with other essentials like towels, paper towels, trash bags, alcohol, and more).

In sum, next time when you book a makeup appointment, make sure your makeup artist is using all these safety measurements, because being healthy and safe is your right.

Ever since I can remember, I always loved taking photos and keeping the memories. I have lots of photos and album from my school years. Photos of friends, holidays and places I visited. There was something captivating about freezing the moment. A moment that will never come back, that will never be the same. I guess I’m a bit of a nostalgic soul 🙂 Becoming a photographer was a natural path for me, even though it took me years of doing all sorts of other jobs to finally take the leap of faith and make it a business. I worked in restaurants, in finance, in marketing and in journalism. It was a curvy road, but now I can see that all of those experiences made me who I am now and also helped me in my photography business. 

What’s your photography style?

I take photos of couples, document marriage proposals, weddings and events and also do portraiture and fashion. I have my periods of “favourite” work, for example, right now I’m all about taking romantic photos at sunrise of engaged couples in Barcelona. 

Your empowered message for all women which are starting with their dream project?

You never know when will you use the skill you learned. For example, waiting tables taught me the importance of great customer service and I am very grateful for that. Working in marketing also gave me important knowledge what I use in my business. Just because you’re not doing what you’d like to do just yet, it doesn’t mean that it’s not possible. Learn as much as you can from where you are right now and take one small step each day into the direction you want to do. With time, you’ll get there.

Why makeup makes you feel empowered?

Wearing a good makeup that matches my skin type makes me feel confident. For me, wearing a beautiful makeup is an act of self-care. I don’t hide my beauty – I make it shine and am confident enough to let it be seen by others.

My interview guest is Madalena, who will share skin care tips with us, especially designed for the weeks before the wedding.
She is an expert Portuguese cosmetologist who arrived in Barcelona 13 years ago and who experiences with passion the world of cosmetics and beauty. For all these 13 years she has been working in luxury hotels (Leading Hotels) in several countries in Europe. Today she works for the beauty center La Cabine, a Barcelona high standing studio leader in skin care.

1) Are women taking care enough about themselves?

I think unfortunately not. Women are not taking care of themselves from the inside out. 60% of us are focused on treating only the external appearance, many women gives only importance to the visible results, forgetting that the key to success is knowing that beauty goes from the inside out. For this reason, it is important to understand that to achieve our goal we must also include the following cares as:

– Practicing sports.
– Taking care of ourselves at the food level, for example we can use nutritional supplements that have antioxidant properties.
– Getting enough rest.
– Reducing stress levels.
– Having skin care daily routines.

My philosophy is to PREVENT, CORRECT AND PROTECT so that they have radiant skin).

2) You work as a cosmetologist at the beauty center La Cabine. What kind of treatments do you offer?
Our center is famous for its approach to skin care. We offer tailor made treatments. These are applied both in the cabin, and by using customized skin care creams that the client uses at home, after we have performed an exhaustive analysis and diagnosis of her skin. Every woman is different, every skin is different, and therefore, women need customized attention and care.

3) Is that the reason why your whole name is La Cabine Innovative Cosmetics?

Exactly, because we are a unique center with the laboratory “at the street level”, where custom creams are formulated for each skin type. This is why all kinds of people come to us for help and advice: adults of all ages, with all skin types and both women and men.

Let’s talk about brides. Every woman wants to be calm, happy and radiant on her wedding day. What type of skin care do you recommend them before their wedding day (not only for their face, but also for the rest of their body)?

First of all, the most important is the preparation of the skin. Above all I recommend every single bride, to prepare her skin appropriately, before she gets the treatment and the right product, made exclusively for her.
So we would start with a skin cleansing. This is really important, so that all the care that follows is the most effective and gives her the best results in order to achieve a radiant skin.
After the cleansing it is time to feed the skin. We do it with the help of 4 Vitamin C sessions. This is a treatment that provides hydration and luminosity. A well hydrated and clean skin is essential for the optimal result, we are looking for on the wedding day.

Definitely, for a wedding we usually talk less about the rest of the body’s skin. But, if you look at this matter closely, for the wedding day or night, the body’s skin is as important as skin on the face. Therefore, for the body I would also recommend something similar: a body peeling together with a moisturizing mask, for example.
With this, the bride can be sure that the can forget about her skin issues, and now she can take care of other such important things for her wedding, such as finding a good makeup artist.

4) Would you mind sharing with us your 5 cosmetologist tricks to give a bride or any women the good care she deserves?

If you want to give a bride or any women the good cares she deserves, you definitely must: create good contact with her; be sensitive and discover her needs; find out the real condition of her skin; be able to create something exclusively for her; be able to give her a professional service all the time you are helping her.

5) Lovely! Madalena, what I found great in your beauty center is the ‘Customized Cream’. Tell me about it a little bit more.

I’ve met my hubby 7 years ago at the winter carnival in Slovenia. Back then my state of mind was: “I’ll never date a foreigner again”. 😊 Can you already imagine what happened? After a while, we started chatting via Facebook and become interested in each other. I said to myself, ok, I’ll date him and see what happens (cos he was living in Slovenia). I’m happy to say, our relationship went so well, that our beautiful son was born. When our son turned 1 year, we decided to move to Barcelona (my hubby’s home town), where we will (probably) stay happily ever after.
